Padded or non-padded bra: which should you wear?
Non-padded for air and everyday comfort, light padding for a smooth line under fitted and white tops. Here's when to wear which.

"Padded or non-padded?" is one of the most common questions we get. Neither is better — they do different jobs. Here's how to choose for your shape, your outfits and the weather.
The short version: non-padded bras are the most breathable and natural for daily wear and hot days. Light padding gives a smooth, even shape and hides nipples under thin or fitted tops. Many women keep both.
What padding actually does
Padding is a thin layer of foam in the cup. It does three things:
- Smooths the shape so the cup looks the same under clothes all day
- Hides nipple outlines under T-shirts, white kurtis and thin fabrics
- Adds a little structure if you prefer a rounder look
It does not change your size or give lift on its own — a well-fitted band does that.
When to choose a non-padded bra
- Hot, humid days — less layering means more air and less sweat
- All-day wear at home, college or work — light and easy to forget you're wearing
- Teens and first bras — gentle and natural; see our starter bras
- Sports and housework — our cotton sports bras are non-padded and pull on easily
A good non-padded option for everyday: the full coverage cotton bra — soft cotton blend, full cups, nothing to dig in.
When to choose a padded bra
- Fitted tops and T-shirts — a smooth surface with no seams showing
- White or light-coloured kurtis — no outline showing through (more in how to wear a white kurti without visible bra lines)
- Events and office days where you want a polished, even shape
Our lightly padded styles: the seamless full coverage bra, the U-shape back seamless bra for backless and low-back blouses, and the racer back padded bra for sleeveless tops.
Does padding make you feel hotter?
A little, compared with a single layer. Light padding with a breathable cotton-blend lining keeps it comfortable for most days. On the hottest days, many women switch to non-padded.
Fit matters more than padding
Padding cannot fix a bra that is the wrong size. If the cup gapes or the band rides up, change the size, not the style. Measure once (here's how) or use Find your fit on any bra page. And if the size you order is wrong, you get a free size exchange within 7 days.
