How to wear a white kurti without visible bra lines
White and pale kurtis show everything underneath. Three changes — colour, cup and a camisole — make your innerwear disappear.

A crisp white kurti is one of the most useful things in an Indian wardrobe, and one of the most unforgiving. Daylight goes straight through thin cotton, and whatever is underneath — a white bra, a seam, a strap, a band that cuts in — shows on the outside.
The short version: wear a bra the colour of your skin, not white; choose seamless moulded cups so there are no edges to print through; and add a skin-tone camisole under sheer or chikankari cotton.
Why white shows through white
It sounds backwards, but a white bra is the most visible thing you can wear under a white kurti. White fabric is brighter than skin, so through a thin kurti it shows as a clear, bright shape. A shade close to your own skin tone has nothing to contrast with, so it disappears.
The same goes for patterns, lace and coloured trims: anything with more contrast than your skin will show.
Choose your skin tone, not "nude"
"Nude" bras are usually one shade of beige, and that is not every Indian skin tone. Hold the bra against the inside of your wrist in daylight: if it looks lighter than your skin, it will glow faintly through white; if it is close, it vanishes. When in doubt between two shades, the slightly deeper one shows less.
Seamless cups: no edges to print through
Under a fitted or thin kurti, it is the edges that show, not the bra itself — the line where a cup ends, a seam across the middle, lace that adds texture. A seamless bra with moulded cups has a smooth outer surface from edge to edge, so there is nothing for the fabric to settle into.
Light padding helps too. It is not about shape: a thin layer of foam evens out the cup so that, in strong light, it reads as smooth rather than showing what is underneath.
Add a camisole under sheer and chikankari cotton
Chikankari, mulmul and other fine cotton let light through no matter what bra you wear. A skin-tone camisole underneath solves three things at once: it hides the bra band and straps, adds an even layer behind the fabric, and takes up sweat on hot days so the kurti does not cling and turn transparent.
Set the camisole's straps to sit over your bra straps, so a sleeveless or wide-neck kurti shows one neat line instead of two.
Get the band right
A band that is too tight creates a ridge of skin above and below it, and that ridge shows through a fitted white kurti even when the bra itself does not. The band should sit level all the way round with room to slide two fingers underneath. If yours digs in, you may need a different size; our size guide takes two minutes.
Check in daylight before you leave
Indoor light is kind; sunlight is not. Stand near a window, or step outside, and look in a mirror from the front and the side. If you can see a line, it will be visible all day.

Frequently asked questions
What colour bra is best under a white kurti?
The shade closest to your own skin tone. White shows through white fabric because it is brighter than skin; a skin-tone bra has nothing to contrast with, so it disappears.
Should I wear a camisole under a white kurti?
Under thin, sheer or chikankari cotton, yes. It hides the bra band and straps, adds an even layer behind the fabric and absorbs sweat so the kurti does not cling.
Does a padded bra show under a kurti?
A lightly padded, seamless bra usually shows less than an unpadded one with seams, because the moulded cup has a smooth surface with no edges to print through.
Why can I see my bra band through my kurti?
Usually because the band is too tight and creates a ridge of skin above and below it. A band that sits level with room for two fingers underneath lies flat.
Can I wear a black bra under a white kurti?
It will show clearly in daylight. Black is best kept for dark kurtis; for white and pale colours choose your skin tone.
